Obstetrics and Gynaecology Overview
Our researchers undertake a wide range of basic, clinical and epidemiological research in obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatal paediatrics.
We are a large and successful department within the Melbourne Medical School of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences with an established worldwide reputation for excellence in child and adolescent health. We are committed to improving clinical care and health outcomes for children and adolescents via our extensive education, research and engagement activities.
Rural Health Overview
Relationships with hospitals, communities and organisations in rural Victoria play a crucial role in research projects to improve the health and wellbeing of people in rural areas.
The Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne undertakes basic, translational, and clinical research across the range of specialties in surgery. The Department has a strong clinical and translational focus, being based across seven hospitals and with links to research institutes at those sites, with research focusing on a diverse range of surgical and biomedical interests.
The Department comprises various various internationally recognised centres and units active in biological and translational psychiatry research.
The Department of Radiology undertakes teaching and research across the Royal Melbourne, Western Health, St Vincent’s, Austin and Northern hospital campuses. The Department, led by Professor Tricia Desmond, greatly assisted by our large and valued honorary radiology staff, has a strong focus on clinical research, particularly neuroimaging.
Medicine and Radiology Overview
The Department is embedded within some of the leading academic public hospitals in Australia, and the strong partnership with these hospitals is critical to the work of the Department. Exciting new developments, including in the fields of cancer, neuroscience and infectious diseases, enrich the experience of our students.
Medical Education Overview
The Department of Medical Education investigates learning and teaching in medical education, including curriculum design, assessment and evaluation, and student selection. We undertake interdisciplinary and translational research with local and international collaborators to inform the education of future doctors.
