Sexual health and young men!
Young men and sexual health!
Professor Meredith Temple-Smith talks to Radio National's Michael Mackenzie about young men and sexual health: In qualitative research undertaken with 21 young men in the 15-24 year age group, they report feeling vulnerable, embarrassed and uninformed about sexual health. The study identified that if the GP raised the topic, as long as the young man felt respected and reassured about his confidentiality, he would be willing to talk about his sexual activity.
While this research has identified that GP’s play an important role in addressing this issue, others in the community, such as family members, teachers and peer educators, are also key to supporting young men in seeking help and information.
