Welcome to the Department of Medical Education

The University of Melbourne established the Department of Medical Education in 2015 to expand on the scholarly discipline of medical education. Our team holds responsibility for the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course, research in medical education and a range of professional development postgraduate and non-award programs.

  • The Melbourne MD was relaunched in 2015. With core learning material consistently delivered across all sites, the redesigned Melbourne MD also gives students the ability to choose different pathways so that they each achieve the same course outcomes while focusing on areas of personal interest.
  • The research groups within the department focus their scholarly engagement on five key areas of medical education: teaching and learning, work-integrated learning, healthcare communication, evidence synthesis in medical education, and professional practice. This work directly informs and improves our programs.
  • The Department delivers high quality research-informed postgraduate and professional development programs for health professionals. We run programs in clinical teaching, clinical leadership and clinical research designed for busy clinicians across health care disciplines.

Our high-quality curriculum is further guaranteed by our rigorous selection, assessment and evaluation teams. Each Clinical School have small academic and professional teams to deliver high-calibre clinical and research placements on site.

We’re located across eight Melbourne Medical School campuses based at hospitals across Melbourne.
