Melbourne Children's

Melbourne Children's

Melbourne Children’s is a fully integrated paediatric teaching hospital and research institute which is unique in Australia and acclaimed internationally.  The Royal Children’s Hospital, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the University of Melbourne, together make an interwoven, symbiotic relationship delivering high quality clinical services underpinned by research and education.  Collectively the independent entities contribute to a paediatric health sciences precinct which is greater than the sum of the parts.  The presence of each benefits the other, ensuring the primary focus of each entity is achieved.  The delivery of innovative, high quality paediatric care is unsustainable without the input of research and education. World standard research into paediatric diseases and education of medical students and other health care professionals in paediatric health is not possible without access to a paediatric clinical environment. Hence the interdependence of the three partners.

The Department of Paediatrics is the primary representative of the University of Melbourne on the RCH Campus.  As the custodian of education on the campus we take the lead in educational activities, and also actively contribute to research and clinical care via our relationships with our campus partners. The fourth member on the campus, the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, engages the community to raise funds and works with the Campus partners to identify fundraising projects or initiatives for research, training, education and medical equipment.

The members of the Melbourne Children’s collaborate, as world leaders, in advancing child and adolescent health through prevention, early intervention and health promotion, together with the highest quality clinical care, outstanding research and comprehensive education and training.  Through the development of sustainable agreements, shared systems and structures that enhance and advance the collaborative relationships between the three partners, Melbourne Children’s supports them in their ambition to rank as one of the best children’s hospital campuses in the world.
