The MMSSA program was initiated in 2012 as part of the celebrations for the medical school’s 150th anniversary and continues to offer the chance for 25 students each year to gain a greater understanding of the wider medical community and volunteer to represent the medical school at various events throughout the year.

Achievements of the MMSSA include the development of the Medical Student Relief Bursary which provides financial support for fellow students during times of unexpected financial stress, the Retranslate symposium and the ‘Medicine: Then and Now’ exhibition. The first of its kind, the MMSSA program encourages a unique connection between the rich history of one of Australia’s oldest medical schools, its current students and the wider medical community.
