About us

Our Schools

Our clinical schools are centred around the Northern Hospital in Epping, the Sunshine Hospital in Sunshine, and Footscray Hospital in Footscray.

Northern Hospital is a growing, dynamic healthcare facility with 300 beds that provides quality care to the people in Melbourne's northern region. You will feel fully integrated into our team, and will be able to access our modern and impressive facilities that deal with the full spectrum of conditions. Visits to nearby campuses such as the Broadmeadows Extended Care Centre and the Craigieburn & Broadmeadows Health Services will give you a strongly community focused view of medicine.

Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals offer students a diverse range of clinical experience. We are situated in the heart of one of the fastest growing areas in the state and that means that there are plenty of opportunities to learn about all aspects of medicine. The teaching, training and research building at Sunshine Hospital offers the newest clinical learning facilities in the state.

At both of our clinical schools you will be a part of a close-knit, friendly team and be able to experience all areas of the medical and surgical units.

Our Community

The Northern Clinical School is located 18 km north of Melbourne. You will be close enough to be able to experience city life whilst being able to enjoy the charm of the Whittlesea area. Epping boasts a number of beautiful parks and reserves and plenty of exciting facilities to keep you entertained such as cinemas, bars and cafés.

The Western Clinical School sits within an area famous for its cultural diversity. Whether it's the tantalising Footscray Markets, the exciting Yarraville arts scene, or the wonderful Asian and African influenced restaurants and cafés, the west of Melbourne is alive with the flavours and cultures of the world.

Our Research

We are a diverse group with research spanning across a variety of translational medicine disciplines. A placement at our clinical schools affords you the opportunity to be involved in similar research projects that aim to provide a direct benefit to the local community and broader population.
The research focus is on the health needs of the community including musculoskeletal diseases, assessing the delivery of health services, ageing and mental health disorders. A particular emphasis is on chronic illnesses in the community such as osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular and renal diseases.
As one of our students you will work alongside leading University of Melbourne researchers and clinicians including:
