The Wangaratta Rural Clinical School (The Chalet) is adjacent to Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW). NHW acts as a regional referral hospital for more complex patients from Bright, Mansfield, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Yarrawonga, Euroa, Benalla and Chiltern.

Diagnostic services are provided on site through the Radiology, Pathology and Nuclear Medicine departments.  Other integrated healthcare services are provided such as; Acute, Sub-Acute, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Special Care Neonatal, Critical Care, Dialysis, Day Stay, Oncology, Adult Psychiatry, Aged Care, Allied Health, and a wide range of community based programs.

    The Wangaratta Rural Clinical School is an easy 2.5-hour drive from Melbourne on the Hume Highway or you can take advantage of the regular V/Line rail or bus services. The Chalet (Rural Clinical School) and a state of the art Teaching and Learning Centre, where students have access to high fidelity simulation equipment, are adjacent to Northeast Health Wangaratta.

  • What can I expect to be doing day-to-day?

    Every day can be different, depending on the term the students are undertaking. Students rotate through wards, theatres and specialist and general practice clinics. Students spend time on the various wards and are integrated into the team working with consultants, registrars and interns. Students also attend tutorials, lectures, seminars and clinical skills sessions.

  • What student accommodation is offered?

    The Rural Health campus provides subsidised, fully furnished, self-catering student accommodation close to The Chalet.

    Worland Road has 32 individual bedrooms. The fully self contained facility has 8 bathrooms and a communal cooking and living area. The kitchen / dining / small lounge area is an open plan design with a separate large lounge and a TV located off the hallway.

    A flat located at the front of the building has a separate kitchenette, lounge, bathroom, double room and single room and would be suitable for a small family. The original section offers 14 double bedrooms with 4 individual shower rooms with basins, 2 shared basins and 3 separate toilets. The new section offers 16 single bedrooms with 4 individual bathrooms including basins and toilets.

    Facilities include:

    • Fully equipped shared kitchen including dishwashers
    • A telephone and internet connection in each bedroom
    • A wall lamp above the desk
    • Washing machines and dryers are located in the laundry
    • Two networked computers and a printer are located in the smaller lounge area as well as two computers in a separate room located near the common room
