Dr Simon Graham and Dr Ouli Xie recognised at NHMRC Research Excellence Awards

Two researchers from the Department of Infectious Diseases, Melbourne Medical School have been awarded Research Excellence Awards from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The Awards, which were granted to winners at a ceremony held in Canberra on 30 March, recognise excellence in the health and medical research sector.

Dr Simon Graham received the 2021 NHMRC Sandra Eades Investigator Grant Award (Emerging Leadership) for his work, Developing a community-led coordination and response guide for a syphilis outbreak in Aboriginal communities. This award is given to the top-ranked Indigenous researcher grant recipient in the Emerging Leadership category of Investigator Grants.

Dr Ouli Xie received the 2021 NHMRC Gustav Nossal Postgraduate Scholarship Award for his work, Analysing the evolution of Streptococcal pathovars to inform prevention and treatment approaches to combat streptococcal disease. This award is given to the highest ranked recipient of an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship in the Clinical Medicine and Science research category.
