PROSPER: PRevalence Of unwanted Sexual contact: Pursuing Early Recognition

Project Details

The PROSPER project aims to understand the experience of unwanted sexual contact (USC) in women attending general practice. Unwanted sexual contact encompasses all acts of a sexual nature which are perpetrated or attempted against the wishes of the recipient. It includes rape and sexual violence, but also covers unwanted kissing, groping and touching, and coercive behaviour.

Currently, there is no information available to Australian general practitioners (GPs) regarding the prevalence of USC within their clinical practice populations, its emotional impact, or how they can support women. The PROSPER Study will address the gap in knowledge.
