Celebrating Excellence at our Annual Awards Night

The Department of General Practice and Primary Care (DGPPC) Annual Awards Night was held on Tuesday, 13 May, bringing together staff, students, and colleagues to celebrate excellence across teaching, research, and student achievement.

The evening was facilitated by GP and Medical Educator A/Professor Caroline Johnson and featured a thought-provoking panel discussion on multidisciplinary, team-based models of care.  This year’s theme was chosen because current evidence points to the need for multidisciplines to work together for the care of people experiencing chronic, and sometimes complex, health issues. Team-based care is also being put forward as a way to integrate health care with social care to address the social determinants of health. The government has flagged that the current funding model may undergo change to support this new direction.

The panel comprised of Professor Tina Brock, Director of the Collaborative Practices Centre; Mr Peter Breadon, Health and Aged Care Program Director at the Grattan Institute; and Dr Simon Benson, GP and Clinical Director for Connected Care at Bupa. The discussion sparked a great deal of interaction and questions from the audience and could easily have filled twice the timeslot!

We also acknowledged the outstanding achievements of our 2024 students, teaching and research award winners, along with the recent Doctor and Master of Philosophy student completions.
