Meet our new Graduate Research students

Meet our 2023 Graduate Research students…

Chiara Beccia is undertaking a PhD with A/Prof Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis on ‘Reducing diagnostic delay in children with type 1 diabetes’. Chiara studied Biomedicine and completed her honours year in the Department last year. Chiara’s research interests are in paediatric diabetes and primary care.

Fran Hearn is a registered midwife and research assistant undertaking a PhD with Dr Elisha Riggs through the Department of General Practice and the Intergenerational Health Group at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Fran’s PhD project ‘Supporting health and social care worker wellbeing - what works and what doesn't?’ is part of the Stronger Futures National Health and Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence [CRE]. Fran’s research aims to generate new knowledge about organisational or systems-level interventions that support the wellbeing of health and social care professionals who work with people of refugee background. As well as promoting worker longevity, resilience, good mental health and reducing trauma-related workforce attrition. Fran lives and works on Wurundjeri Country.

Aishah Jameel is currently undertaking a PhD with Dr Elisha Riggs on ‘Evaluating the role of bicultural workers in improving maternal and child health outcomes among refugee communities’. Her research interests are in maternal and child health in vulnerable communities, implementation science and knowledge translation. Aishah has experience in First Nations and global health research and has worked at a number of organisations including Karabena Consulting and the Lowitja Institute. She holds a Master of Public Health and BSc (Hons) in Medical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
