She has a clinical background in cardiothoracic surgery and surgical oncology as well as public health and health administration.  She has been actively engaged with, and implementing the principles of, value-based healthcare throughout her various roles, in particular in her roles at Bupa, and as Chair of the Board of Dental Health Services Victoria, which, as a state-wide public oral health service, is in the process of implementing value-based Healthcare as a new clinical and operating model.

As an honorary of our Department, Prof Wainer’s executive role with the Victorian Department of Health will offer exciting opportunities for bi-directional engagement with our researchers to contribute to existing projects as collaborators, and to co-design new projects. Prof Wainer will also provide guest lectureships and provide key stakeholder input into career readiness of our Graduate Research, post-graduate and Doctor of Medicine students.  She is also interested in collaborating on initiatives to design, implement and evaluate value-based healthcare designs, and improve research rigour through a policy lens, with particular input to helping research teams to develop effective, policy impactful dissemination plans in addition to her willingness to be on supervisory panels, and provide informal advice as required to PhD candidates.
