Meet our new staff

Introducing - Lija Svalbe

New Role: Academic Program Co-ordinator & Lecturer in Primary Care

Taking over from: Chance Pistoll

Lija is a General Practitioner and Medical Educator, who has recently taken on this exciting and challenging role. She had some involvement in curriculum development of the MD1 course in 2019, and looks forward to being involved in the Teaching and Learning space once again.

Lija usually works as a GP at Westcare Medical Centre, but is currently on leave from clinical work whilst she looks after new bubby Nina. She also has roles in tutoring MD1 and MD2 students, as well as working at an RTO training GP Registrars studying for Fellowship with the RACGP.

A random fact: Lija originally trained in Veterinary Science at Melbourne University way back in 2004, prior to doing Medicine at Deakin University. She isn’t currently doing any Veterinary clinical work, but has a managerie of pets, the largest of whom is a horse! She looks forward to meeting you all, most likely virtually, in the coming months.

Introducing - Jane Henty

New Role: Manager Learning and Teaching

Taking over from: Helen Steer

Jane has been working in health care projects and programs for the past ten years. She has been passionate about supporting heatlhcare students, ever since she was a nursing student herself!

Previously Jane worked as the Program Manager for the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce. In a previous life, she worked managing education programs for nurses in general practice. She is looking forward to working again with health professionals general practice sector!

A random fact: At the moment she is working from home in Melbourne lockdown but dreams of holidays in Noosa with her husband and kids (hopefully in the near future!)… Unlike Lija she doesn’t have any pets!
