A/Prof John Furler, Dr Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis and A/Prof Dougie Boyle have been successful in obtaining funding for three research projects from the RACGP Foundation, as well as receiving funding from the Melbourne Networked Society Institute of the University.

Led by Kelsey Hegarty, the Safer Families Centre of Research Excellence is officially underway. The aim is to make all families safer by generating evidence-based knowledge to assist services to identify violence early and tailor effective responses.

Dr Laura Tarzia’s paper, “Sexual violence associated with poor mental health in women attending Australian general practices” was published last month in the ANZJPH. It reports the findings from the first wave of the PROSPER Study, which was funded by an MDHS Early Career Researcher Grant. PROSPER aims to explore the prevalence and health effects of sexual violence in a GP population.

The Department welcomes visitor Dr Wern-Ee Tang, a Family Physician from the National Healthcare Group Polyclinics, Singapore. Sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Singapore, Dr Tang hopes to learn more about patient participation in healthcare, health services design and research.
