The first session of the inaugural Advanced Clinical Trial Design short course, offered by the Clinical Research program at the Department of Medical Education, Melbourne Medical School, was successfully launched on 6-8 May 2019. This comprehensive program is designed for health professionals, post-doctoral researchers, higher degree research students or those who aspire to be part of randomised clinical trials as a sub-study investigator, project manager, clinical trial regulatory specialist or clinical research associate. Our May session delved into the clinical research pipeline, trial designs, research funding relevant to clinical trials, the role of stakeholders, blinding, and epidemiological and health economics modelling in trials. The course was well received and attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, including clinicians, nurses, epidemiologists and biostatisticians.
We'll be investigating more critical areas of the clinical trial design process in session two, 24-26 June and session three, 16-18 September 2019. An exciting range of research, industry and academic experts will be joining us. Places still available for both sessions.
We awarded a number of scholarships to University of Melbourne PhD students to promote interest and upskilling among postgraduate students in clinical trials, currently all scholarships have been awarded, although students are welcome to join the waiting list.
