Overview
The Rural Health MD Discovery 3 program will provide students with the opportunity for a detailed exploration of the disparities in healthcare access in a rural setting. The subject will explore Rural Generalism as a specialization and implications for healthcare in Australia (and training pathways). Students will gain an understanding of the skills involved underlying the Rural Generalist scope of practice such as primary care, obstetrics, anaesthetics, mental health services and emergency medicine.
All teaching will be centred around weekly cases, based on emergency medicine, primary care, and hospital based care. These cases will provide students with an in depth understanding of the role of the Rural Generalist in each of these contexts with specific clinically based workshops tailored for each case.
