Overview

This Discovery 3 Integration topic uses contemporary theory and knowledge to focus on the provision of health care for those with childhood onset life-long disability. Students will gain knowledge about medical, social and biopsychosocial models of disability and understand the range of systems-level impacts on outcomes. The focus in this topic will be on people with neurodevelopmental disability (for example cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury or childhood stroke). Students will explore associated health conditions and assessment needs at different life stages; consider life-long impacts of neurodevelopmental disability on the child and family; the impact of culture and place on the intersection between disability and health care service provision; and low and high technical solutions to health care needs.
