Overview

This discovery topic provides a foundational understanding of the intersection of culture, sex, sexuality, gender, and health.

Currently, there are fantastic LGBTIQA+ health services and equally as excellent First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) healthcare organisations, however, these are often independent of each other. It has been demonstrated that there is a lack of culturally safe LGBTIQA+ health services and equally a deficiency in LGBTIQA+ friendly Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Additionally, there are few opportunities for health professionals in training to learn about culturally safe LGBTIQA+ healthcare, particularly those interested in working with First Nations communities. This subject provides an exciting opportunity to learn specifically about the intersection of culture, sex, sexuality, gender, and health in regards to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Sistagirl, Brothaboy and other sexually or gender diverse (LGBTIQASB+) peoples specifically for First Nations communities - referred to as Rainbow Mob for this topic.
