Calculating the odds of Endometriosis

The diagnosis of endometriosis could soon be revolutionised thanks to an ‘endometriosis calculator’ currently in development by University of Melbourne, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology researchers at the Royal Women’s and Mercy Hospitals. Indicators such as hair colour, eye colour, Body Mass Index (BMI) and even the distance between the vagina and the anus are factors that are being explored to ultimately provide people with a better idea of the odds of endometriosis, before going ahead with surgery.

Dr Charlotte Reddington leads one of the nine projects within the MRFF-funded research group “Endometriosis: Diagnosis, Innovation and Treatment”, aiming to improve the quality of life for all people living with endometriosis and associated persistent pelvic pain (PPP) through research-driven improvements in diagnosis and treatment.
