Hubert Sydney Jacobs Memorial Scholarship 2021

Congratulations to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology PhD student, Dr Rangi de Silva, who was recently awarded the Dr Hubert Sydney Jacobs Memorial Scholarship for 2021.

Dr Rangi De Silva was awarded the scholarship for her recently published paper in The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific, entitled ‘Severe maternal morbidity in the Asia Pacific; a systematic review and meta-analysis’ by Dr Manarangi De Silva, Dr Leeanne Panisi, Dr Anthea Lindquist, A/Prof Catherine Cluver, Anna Middleton, Dr Benjamin Koete, A/Prof Joshua P. Vogel, Prof Susan Walker, Prof Stephen Tong and Dr Roxanne Hastie.

The paper finds that there is a high burden of severe maternal morbidity in the Asia-Pacific with LMICs are disproportionately affected. The paper discusses that most of the common causes are preventable, and that this provides an opportunity to implement targeted interventions which could have major clinical impact. You can view the paper here.

The Dr Hubert Sydney Jacobs Memorial Scholarship is a mechanism to promote the careers of promising students, a scholarship of $5,000 is awarded to a Research Higher Degree Student from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the best peer reviewed research paper published in the previous 12 months.
