The Gandel Simulation Education Service led by Dr Rebecca Szabo

""

Congratulations to Dr Rebecca Szabo, an obstetrician gynaecologist, medical educator and academic at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who has received a joint grant from Gandel Philanthropy and Melbourne Medical School for a new simulation initiative, the Gandel Simulation Education Service.

The program will enable health professionals from across The Women’s to gain experience in dealing with life-threatening emergencies and challenging clinical situations involving women and babies, before encountering them in real life. The training focuses on real-life clinical complexity, the patient journey and clinician responses.

This program was inspired by current world leaders in simulation in Australia, Israel, North America and the United Kingdom. Simulation has long been used in high-risk sectors, such as aviation, space exploration, defence and the nuclear industry.

This in-situ simulation will be provide clinicians with real-time clinical experience without real patients.  It will improve quality and health outcomes for the next generation.
