2023 Marles STEMM award

Congratulations to Associate Professor Brett Manley from the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health for being awarded the 2023 Marles STEMM award in recognition of the significant impact and demonstrable contribution his original research has made in the last ten years. The Marles Medal recognises excellence in the impact that Brett’s research on neonatal intubation had had in being translated into medical practice that has saved infant lives in five countries.
The Marles Medal is awarded each year by a committee of senior University of Melbourne academics to University of Melbourne academic staff in recognition of the significant impact and demonstrable contribution their original research has made in the preceding ten years.
The Marles Medal recognises excellence in research impact, which may include an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health and wellbeing, the environment or quality of life beyond academia. Established in 2020 the award is named in honour of Ms Fay Marles AM, an alumna and first female Chancellor of the University of Melbourne.
