The 2023 ESA-SRB Annual Scientific Meeting was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Queensland on 26-29 November 2023.

Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health members were celebrated and awarded. Prof Natalie Hannan was awarded the Society for Reproductive Biology Mercy Perinatal Mid-Career Medal for Women’s Health. PhD candidate Bianca Fato won the Society for Reproductive Biology and the Australia New Zealand Placental Research Association New Investigator Award (Dr Lucy Bartho was also a finalist). PhD candidate Michaela Sacco received the Hudson Institute of Medical Research "Award for Excellence" for Best Early Career Researcher Poster.

Professor Natalie Hannan is an ARC Future Fellow, at the University of Melbourne. Natalie leads the Therapeutics Discovery and Vascular Function in Pregnancy Group. Her research is focused on understanding placental development, vascular function and adaptation in pregnancy, as well as the underlying mechanisms driving spontaneous pre-term birth. Natalie is passionate about developing safe therapeutics and delivery strategies for use in pregnancy, and for the treatment of major complications of pregnancy including preeclampsia and preterm birth.

Bianca Fato is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne within the Therapeutics Discovery and Vascular Function in Pregnancy group headed by Prof. Natalie Hannan. She is investigating key contributors to vascular dysfunction in pregnancy. Her research is focussed on the human vasculature and developing new and innovative models of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus.
