Department Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health Professor Brett Manley and his team have been awarded the prestigious Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA) Trial of the Year for their PLUSS trial. This important study investigated whether administering intra-tracheal budesonide during early treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in extremely preterm infants could increase survival without bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
The large-scale trial included 1,000 babies across 21 hospitals in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Canada. This recognition highlights the potential impact of their research on improving care for our most vulnerable patients.
Established in 2016, the ACTA Trial of the Year Awards spotlight exceptional Australian endeavours that enhance clinical practices and positively impact patient lives annually. This year's ceremony underscored Australia's pivotal role in driving forward clinical innovation on a global scale.
Congratulations Brett and team on this outstanding achievement!
