Information for MOGCAST Guests
What is MOGCAST?
MOGCAST is a podcast created for medical students studying Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health.
It features short mini-episodes on key topics provided by obstetricians, gynaecologists, neonatologists, academics, and experts in women’s and newborn health.
Designed to help MD students study, MOGCAST aims to provide accessible content that educates and informs our students whilst extending their knowledge in key and emerging areas of OGN healthcare.
Why should I record an episode of MOGCAST?
MOGCAST provides an opportunity for our students to connect on a personal level with you, your voice, your work, and your area of interest.
We’ve invited you to be a guest because we think you have something to offer our listeners. But in return, this is what we can offer you:
Exposure and reach
You’ll gain an invaluable captive audience, and while our podcast was started for University of Melbourne students, your content could reach ears across the globe.
Establish your authority
MOGCAST gives you a unique outlet to create and hone your personal or organisational brand and establish your thought leadership and expertise.
Content creation and repurposing
The content from the podcast can easily be reused on your own channels, sites, and platforms. You can repurpose the content into blog posts or social media content. By reaching audiences through multiple mediums, you can extend the value of your podcast appearance.
Evergreen content
Podcasts stand apart from social media content because they don’t disappear. You’ll always be able to refer your website visitors to our podcast.
How much time will this take?
We don't need hours of your time. Short snippets are great for engaged listening so a recording of anywhere between 7-20 minutes is good.
What's involved in recording an episode?
All you need to do is provide a recording of you speaking about your chosen topic. You can use a phone to record and just provide us with the audio file. We will do all the editing and polishing to produce a finished episode.
I've never recorded a podcast - how do I prepare?
Prepare your run sheet
We recommend preparing dot points or a run sheet before recording your episode. This will help the recording process run smoothly and ensure you discuss everything you want to cover without recording for hours.
Introductions
The run sheet should include an introduction about yourself and your organisation (if relevant) and the topics you want to discuss.
Outro
We also recommend including an “outro” to end the podcast with any next steps your listeners may wish to take. ending with a goodbye is also a great addition (goodbye, thank you for listening, see you next time, etc.)
Collate any resources
Resources (books, websites, other podcasts, etc.) are great additions to a podcast. If you decide to mention resources, please send us a link, and we will include it in the episode details.
Any tips for recording on my phone?
- Locate and launch the Voice Memos app (iPhone) or Sound Recorder (Android)
- Position your phone like you would during a phone call, or place it on a flat surface about 15-20 centimetres away from your face
- Make sure you’re in a quiet room without a lot of echo or background noise. If you can’t avoid it, don’t worry; we’ll remove as much background noise as we can
- Tap the red record button
- Speak clearly and at a reasonable volume. You can adjust the volume by moving the phone closer or further away.
- Pause or stop the recording when you need to. Tap resume to continue
- When you have finished your recording, you can share it with us Here’s how:
- Select the recording to export.
- Tap the More Actions button.
- Tap “Share,” then choose a sharing option and follow the onscreen prompts.
