2020 Queen's Birthday Honours

The Department of Paediatrics congratulates our members who are recipients of 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

  • Gastroenterologist, The Royal Children's Hospital, Professor Graeme L Barnes AO, was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine, particularly to child gastrointestinal health, and to medical research.
  • Director of the Centre for Hormone Research, at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, MCRI, Professor George A Werther AO (Doctor of Medicine, 1994; Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1971), was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine, to paediatric endocrinology and research, and to professional medical organisations.

Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

  • Chair of Adolescent Health, and Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Professor Susan M Sawyer AM, (Doctor of Medicine, 1995), Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1985) was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to tertiary education, to adolescent health, and to international groups.
  • Professor Sheena Reilly AM, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Health), Health Group, Griffith University Queensland. For significant service to tertiary education, to medical research, and to paediatric speech pathology.

These awards acknowledge the substantial contribution of our colleagues and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all on their achievements.
