Congratulations to our new professors
We are very pleased to announce that Jan Hodgson and Margie Danchin have been promoted to the position of full professor in 2022.
Jan is the Program Director for the Master of Genetic Counselling (MGC) and Master of Genomics and Health (MGH) programs in the Department of Paediatrics.
She has used her vision and dedication to lead her team of both academic and professional staff in genetics, counselling, and research. Jan’s thoughtful, collaborative, and respectful leadership style provides the ideal environment for her staff to develop their skills to their full potential and achieve their career goals.
Margie has been a consultant paediatrician at the Royal Children’s Hospital, the University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics and MCRI, where she is Group Leader of Vaccine Uptake. She chairs the Collaboration on Social Science and Immunisation (COSSI), an international collaboration to improve vaccine confidence, demand and uptake. She is also Director of Clinician Scientist Pathways at Melbourne Medical School, a role in which she supports emerging professionals – especially women – to embrace both clinical medicine and research.
She has built capacity through a Vaccine Champions program, in partnership with the Department of Health, which she describes as the most satisfying part of her COVID work.
Both new professors are leaders and ambassadors who advance the capacity and standing of the University of Melbourne. Their leadership and example are essential to our pursuit of the highest levels of academic excellence and our wider contributions to society.
