Thesis Title: Characterising protein and cellular adsorption profiles in paediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO): towards biologically inert (adsorption free) circuits

Thesis Summary: This PhD project established the methodology of using scanning electron microscopy, proteomics and immunofluorescence to characterise the protein and cellular binding to paediatric ECMO circuits, demonstrating a previously unknown complexity of binding, which may lay the foundations for improvements to ECMO circuits and strategies to reduce binding and improve patient outcomes.
