R U OK? Day 10 September 2020

R U OK Day Logo

R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life . This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?'

We invite you to join Professor Jane Gunn, Deputy Dean of MDHS and Dr Nicholas Van Dam, Senior lecturer in Clinical Psychology, to discuss how we look out for signs that our friends, family and colleagues might be struggling in the context of our virtual climate. The webinar will also look at the benefits of mindfulness from a medical perspective followed by a mindfulness session led by Dr Van Dam.

This webinar will provide attendees with a safe space to participate or just observe from a camera-free perspective, and in whatever location you feel most comfortable. Mindfulness practice is only one way to explore and understand our self in the world, and it may not be the right practice for some individuals at this point in time. The purpose of this session is to share our academic expertise and contribute to creating an environment where people feel safe to speak out when they feel their mental health is being impacted and encourage people to take some time out to connect with the support that works for them.
