AUPOA Research Assistant Stephanie Perin publishes Honours thesis

The Honours work of AUPOA research assistant and study coordinator, Stephanie Perin, and the Australian Imaging Biomarkers and Lifestyle (AIBL) research group, which investigated the relationships between amyloid-beta and depressive episodes and symptoms in cognitively healthy older adults, has recently been published in the Journal of Affective Disorders.

The findings of this research study showed that depressive episodes are unlikely to be a direct result of increasing amyloid-beta, but that amyloid-beta may be associated with small increases in apathy-anxiety symptoms. Overall, it was suggested that causes other than Alzheimer’s disease may account for depression in otherwise healthy older people.
