2022 Department of Psychiatry Innovation Grants Scheme

The Department of Psychiatry recently announced the outcome of its first Innovation Grants Scheme. Our Head of Department, Prof. Chris Davey, thanked everyone who submitted project applications for the Grants, and congratulated our inaugural awardee.

Terry Chong

  • Awarded to: Dr Terence Chong
  • Project Title: ExTRA – Exercise Therapy to Reduce Anxiety (an automated, self-directed web-based pilot program)
  • Funding: Terence receives the amount of $25,000

The Department of Psychiatry, supported by The Henry Freeman Trust, established this research grant round – the Innovation Grants Scheme – to support academic Level A, B, and C early- and mid-career researchers within the Department.

The Innovation Grant Scheme supports research projects, with the view to supporting novel ideas or generating pilot data that will assist with making external grant applications more competitive. This includes support for a successful application that has received less than the requested funding and would benefit from a Department ‘top-up’ to ensure feasibility of the funded research.

The Department recognises that 2020 and 2021 were particularly disruptive years for its research teams. Accordingly, these funds may be used to try and catch up research, and funds may be used for extra personnel to ‘regain lost time’ and/or to purchase equipment to utilise in advancing projects.
