The Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub (GVRTH) is located in Shepparton with a footprint that stretches from Echuca to Wangaratta. The Hub supports medical students, junior doctors, clinics and health services within the region by providing training opportunities, career development, mentoring and community networking events. The Hub provides support in attracting and retaining medical professionals by showcasing regional medical careers and lifestyle benefits.


About The Hub

Conveniently located across the road from Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton and working across the mid-North region of Victoria, the GVRTH sits within the University of Melbourne, Department of Rural Health. GVRTH is committed to supporting medial training opportunities within the community and retaining exceptional talent in our region.

Our focus

  • Supporting medical students and prevocational doctors with an interest in rural and regional medicine through connection, mentorship and career advice.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with our local Health Services, Primary Health Network and Medical training providers to facilitate a range of pathways.
  • Supporting current clinical training supervisors, assisting health services in securing accreditation for new training posts, and enabling local medical practitioners to become clinical supervisors.

What we do

The Hub is a dedicated team supporting medical students, junior doctors, clinical supervisors, and health services. The team provides access to training programs, career development, mentoring, and opportunities for professional engagement.

Additionally, The Hub support graduate pathways and deliver practical training to prepare the next generation of rural health professionals.  In partnership with local stakeholders, The Hub expands on regional medical career opportunities and promote the benefit of living in a connected regional community.

The Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub, as a partner in the Southern Regional Training Hub Alliance, has played a pivotal role in the development of the Regional Medical Training (RMT) Website.

Mentoring

DR JuMP is a free mentoring program that supports rural and regional medical students and professionals in Victoria. The program is free to access and can be joined at any time.

The program is designed to specifically address the unique needs of regional doctors and students by enabling connection and mentorship in ways that were never before possible. It supports mentoring at any stage of your study or career, such as a fourth-year medical student can mentor a first-year student.
