The Department of Rural Health offers a range of accommodation options across 12 regional towns throughout Victoria. These facilities are designed to support students undertaking short or long-term placements in rural and regional communities.
Accommodation is available to University of Melbourne students, as well as eligible students from other recognised Australian universities.

The rate of the accommodation is $200 per week. However, there are a range of accommodation subsidies available for certain disciplines. Please reach out to the Campus Life Team at drh-accom@unimelb.edu.au for more information.

All accommodation applications must be made through the Rural Living Portal linked in the apply now button above.

The Department has tried to make your stay as stress free as possible.
You will need to bring the following items:
- Bedding - sheets, pillows, blankets
- Towels and a bathmat
- Toiletries - shampoo, conditioner, soap etc
- Laundry detergent and hand soap
- All personal items – clothes, food etc

Throughout your application, you will be able to provide your room preferences and any other preferences you have for your stay.
The team will endeavour to accommodate as many of these as possible, however we cannot guarantee availability. Please reach out to the Campus Life Team at drh-accom@unimelb.edu.au to discuss the specifics of your accommodation requests.

Yes, you must be staying for at least 5 nights to stay in the Department of Rural Health accommodation.

Extending your stay is subject to availability. All requests must be made in writing to the Campus Life Team at drh-accom@unimelb.edu.au with at least 14 days’ notice.

Absolutely! There is a visitor request you will need to submit prior to your guest arriving.
Once the request has been submitted via the Rural Living Portal, a member of the Campus Life Team will let you know whether it's been approved. Your visitor must be over the age of 18 and not stay any longer than 2 nights a week.
