Our FUSE (Focused Ultrasound Simulation Education) courses have travelled internationally! In April this year A/Prof David Canty, from the Ultrasound Education Group, gave a lecture at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Simulation and Skills Centre, Hong Kong. He spoke about the rapid uptake and benefits of ultrasound guided assessment and procedures to a group of doctors from various hospitals in Hong Kong. The event was organised by Karen Kirby, of the Ultrasound Education Group, and hosted by The Echo Committee of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists.

David and Karen also ran two Train-the-Trainer workshops, covering all simulator courses: TTETOEPeri-ArrestVascular and Lung and Gastric which integrate eLearning with simulators to reinforce practical components.

The 10 attendees were anaesthetists, emergency and ICU physicians who teach echo in Hong Kong. They were shown how easy the FUSE system can facilitate ultrasound training within whole departments. There was great excitement and enthusiasm about the ease of the simulator education. The attendees found Dave’s teaching tips and using the simulator to train very simple, especially TOE.

Each of the trainers was given full access to each train the train eLearning course package giving them a full understanding the Simulator Education and the knowledge and structure of how to run each of the courses themselves. In the future, they plan to go on and independently run their own ultrasound courses internally.

As doctors begin to realize the benefits of bringing ultrasound into their clinics, our FUSE and FCU ultrasound simulator programs are steadily increasing in popularity.
