LUF-Boerhaave Chair

Hong-Jian Zhu, Ph.D, Senior Research Fellow, Head, Cancer Signalling Laboratory, The University of Melbourne, has been appointed Boerhaave – LUF – Visiting Professor

The LUF-Boerhaave Chair enables guest professorships for eminent and authoritative scholars, preferably from abroad, who can stimulate a particular area of research and education within the Leids University Medical Center (LUMC). These are incidental and personal appointments for a certain (usually short) period of no more than a few months, which has been agreed in advance.

The guest professor will be maximized for the education and research purposes within the LUMC during the short period of stay in Leiden. A maximum of four scholars are appointed each year at the LUF-Boerhaave Chair. They do not get an official appointment. The chair is funded by the Leids University Fund (LUF).

The LUF-Boerhaave professor usually holds a public lecture in the LUMC at the beginning of the period of residence. Prior to this Boerhaave lecture, the professor receives an ear tag and a Boerhaave prize. On May 18, 2015, Professor Melissa Little of the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne held a Boerhawe lecture entitled "Rebuilding a Kidney: from Development to Regeneration".

In recent years, leading scholars from all over the world have taken part in the LUF-Boerhaave Chair and can exert influence on the research and education of LUMC and Leiden University.
