Contact hours across Clinical Schools vary, and weekly schedules may differ according to clinical activities and learning opportunities. At St Vincent’s Clinical School, students are encouraged to actively participate in unit-based ward rounds, meetings, and other clinical forums. At times, this may require an earlier start to ensure full engagement with the clinical environment.
While most structured teaching occurs within standard business hours (8:30 am – 5:00 pm), the clinical program is designed to reflect the realities of healthcare practice and therefore does not always conform strictly to these times. We invite students to approach their schedules with flexibility and professionalism in order to gain the greatest benefit from their clinical learning experiences.
We are committed to supporting medical students to develop mature, self-directed study habits that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and professional growth. Our approach encourages deep understanding rather than rote learning, promoting the use of clinical frameworks and structured reasoning to organise knowledge and guide decision-making. Grounded in adult learning principles, we value active engagement, reflection, feedback, and application to real clinical contexts; empowering students to take ownership of their learning and prepare confidently for practice.
