The Melbourne Medical School (MMS) is pleased to present the Sustainability, Climate and Health Strategy 2025 - 2030.
As leaders in health education and research, we recognise that our future prosperity and wellbeing are intrinsically linked to the health of our planet.
Addressing climate change requires a concerted effort across all sectors, and the medical community has a vital role in fostering climate resilient communities and health systems, reducing environmental impact, and shaping policies that protect both people and planet.
This inaugural strategy provides a blueprint to respond to these challenges while equipping the next generation of healthcare leaders with the skills and knowledge to respond.
At its heart, this strategy is about working together. Our goal is to inspire and support students, colleagues, and leaders of the profession to safeguard health in a changing climate, grounded in our shared responsibility to practice within environmental boundaries.
The strategy closely aligns with the School's Advancing Medicine 2025 - 2030 strategic plan, the Faculty's Advancing Health 2030 strategic plan, the University's Advancing Melbourne 2030 strategy, Sustainability Plan 2030 and Sustainability Charter. This framework reflects our shared commitment to meaningful action.
We extend our sincere thanks to the many staff and students whose insights have been instrumental in advancing our vision for a more sustainable School. In particular, we'd like to acknowledge all Faculty colleagues who contributed their perspectives during the consultation phase, and to the MMS student community through the Planetary Health Report Card, whose advocacy has influenced this work.
Thank you for your support and commitment as we take this important step together towards a more sustainable School.
