Masterclass with Carl May and friends

Carl May is Professor of Healthcare Innovation at the University of Southampton, UK and is an Honorary Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Primary Care at Melbourne University. Carl works closely with clinical researchers and his work has focused on developing a richer understanding of the development and implementation of innovative healthcare technologies, and other complex healthcare interventions.

His work in this field includes leading the project to develop Normalization Process Theory (NPT). NPT helps us to understand the factors that promote and inhibit the effective adoption, implementation, and integration of new technologies and new ways of working in healthcare. NPT has informed more than 200 published implementation and evaluation studies with many more currently in progress.

The masterclass will cover both theory and application of Normalization Process Theory (NPT), enabling participants to understand the factors that promote and inhibit the effective adoption, implementation, and integration of new technologies and new ways of working in healthcare. A range of speakers will contribute to the masterclass, reflecting on their work using NPT. All presenters will be available to respond to questions from the class. Lessons from a recent systematic review of the 200+ published studies informed by NPT will be shared.
