From Immune Discovery to Global Health Outcomes: Reflections on the latest MMS + WEHI Partnering for Impact Event

Researchers from the Melbourne Medical School (MMS) and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) came together at Graduate House on 19 August for the third MMS + WEHI Partnering for Impact event, centred on the theme ‘From Immune Discovery to Global Health Outcomes’ and exploring how research can translate into meaningful health impact.

Building on the success of previous forums on Women’s Health and AI in Discovery Science, the event was designed to connect researchers across organisations, foster new collaborations and support pathways from discovery science to tangible health impact. The strong attendance reflected a growing appetite for interdisciplinary engagement and highlighted the value of creating spaces where researchers can share ideas, expertise and ambition.

The event showcased a range of distinguished speakers, including Professor Jason Tye-Din, Dr Rutger Roring, Dr Danika Hill, Professor Fiona Russell, Associate Professor Sabine Braat, Professor James McCarthy and Dr Josh Osowicki. The two sessions focused on immunology discoveries and the design and delivery of clinical trials, demonstrating how collaborative research can translate into meaningful health outcomes on both a local and global scale. Throughout the afternoon, panel discussions provided further opportunities to exchange ideas and explore potential future research initiatives.
