Career Opportunities for Aspiring Clinician Scientists Event

The Melbourne Medical School Research Support Team and the MD-PhD Student Executive Team organised a panel event titled Career Opportunities for Clinician Scientists on Monday 30 September.

MD students were invited to join and discuss career prospects and pathways available to them as aspiring clinician scientists.

The panelists included two Clinician Scientists and three MACH-Track Fellows:

  • Associate Professor Catherine Quinlan - Paediatric Nephrologist, Research Lead, Clinical Lead in Kidney Genetics, Royal Children's Hospital
  • Dr Emily See – Consultant Intensivist and Nephrologist, The Royal Melbourne Hospital
  • Dr Emma Boehm - MACH-Track Fellow and Endocrinologist and Nuclear Medicine Fellow, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
  • Dr Jason Ha - MACH-Track Fellow and Ophthalmology Registrar
  • Dr Farrah Rodrigues - MACH-Track Fellow and Paediatric Endocrinologist and General Paediatrician, MCRI

The event provided an opportunity for MD students to discuss opportunities to enhance employability and career prospects, explore diverse career options, understand the importance of strengthening professional competitiveness through publications, and learn how to establish a leadership mindset when approaching employability and career advancement opportunities.

The event was hosted by Moran Zhou (President, MD-PhD Student Society) and Abigail McGovern (Vice President, MD-PhD Student Society) and over twenty MD students were in attendance. The panel discussion allowed MD students to understand the progressive and trailblazing nature of clinician scientist careers. Through events such as this, the Melbourne Medical School continues to nurture and inspire future generations of clinician scientists.
