The 2024 Doctor of Medicine Valedictory Program
On Tuesday 22 October and Wednesday 23 October, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) class of 2024 gathered at the Parkville campus to bring their MD journey to a close.
The two-day Valedictory event provided a special opportunity to come together after four years of diverse placements (and pandemic disruptions) to celebrate their accomplishments and reflect on the themes of leadership and advocacy in preparation for their various roles in society as doctors, as well as the next phase of their medical training.

The first day was coordinated by the Wurru Wurru Health Unit, which included engaging panels and interactive sessions with esteemed First Nations doctors and leaders. These sessions encouraged and challenged the students to consider what effective cultural leadership embodies and forges. Wanyara also hosted the students for several traditional First Nations sports and games before cooling off with ice cream alongside the Australian Medical Association.
The second day invited the graduating class to reflect on the importance of communication and system culture to improve the experience for patients, families and healthcare professionals through a performance from the Hush Foundation. Additionally, students worked with cherished clinicians from our healthcare network to explore professional identity formation and to appraise the Physicians Pledge.
A fitting close to the day was led by Hannah McPierzie, who captivated and inspired the final year students with lived and learned experience of being deafblind.
On behalf of the MD program, we congratulate the class of 2024 on their upcoming graduation and look forward to working with them as doctors and colleagues. We are delighted to welcome them to our alumni community.
