Staff Profile: Elise Newman

Elise Newman is the Department Coordinator for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health, based at the Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH).

Elise commenced at the University in 2017 as an Operations Liaison Officer for Melbourne Medical School based at Austin Health in Heidelberg. In 2019, she commenced in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health as Executive Assistant to Professor Martha Hickey and Operations Liaison Officer, providing professional support to the department staff and students based at the Level 7 RWH research precinct.

There are eight University of Melbourne research groups based at the RWH which seek better treatments and evidence-based methods to give women and babies the healthiest futures possible. Areas with significant impact include:

  • Pioneering advances in ovarian cancer research
  • Advancements in detecting, preventing, and treating human papillomavirus
  • Breakthroughs in endometriosis research are offering new hope
  • Core outcomes in Menopause
  • Understanding endometrial receptivity to improve pregnancy outcomes
  • Fertility after cancer predictor
  • Improving breathing support for preterm infants.

In her professional role, Elise manages HR, finance, induction, events, and all operational matters, and works to build relationships and improve communications across the department.

Elise has been pivotal in getting the Department intranet site up and running, which is a great resource for all staff and students.
