New clinical school location at the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery
The Melbourne Medical School is excited to welcome a new home for its St Vincent’s Hospital Clinical School at the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD), opening in the second half of 2025.
This new location will offer a state-of-the-art environment for training future clinicians, biomedical engineers and MedTech innovators. Students will acquire the skills necessary to understand and address significant medical issues in a multidisciplinary, project-driven environment.

The new location will feature interactive learning spaces including a clinical simulation laboratory, seminar and tutorial rooms, and a multi-level lecture theatre. It will also support both the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and the recently introduced MD-Master of Bioengineering dual degree, fostering enhanced collaboration between medicine and engineering.
The MD-MBioEng program is designed for highly motivated students who have completed a major in Biomedical Engineering Systems before commencing the MD. This accelerated pathway offers a unique opportunity to become a medically trained biomedical engineer.
Professor Anna Ryan, Head of the Department of Medical Education in the Melbourne Medical School, welcomes the new location.
“I am delighted that in late 2025, the St Vincent’s Clinical School will be relocating to the new Aitkenhead Centre for Medical Discovery. The co-location of our clinical school with leading clinicians and researchers in the ACMD will expose our students to incredible research across MedTech, biotech and digital health and create opportunities for them to participate in a range of biomedical engineering projects as they complete their Doctor of Medicine."
As the ACMD nears completion, the School looks forward to uniting researchers, clinicians and students in a shared mission to advance medical discovery and innovation.
