ACADI confirmed as a University of Melbourne Research Centre
The University of Melbourne has formally approved the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations (ACADI) as a University Research Centre for a 10‑year term, following endorsement by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

Established in 2022 under the Medical Research Future Fund’s Targeted Translation Research Accelerator (TTRA) initiative, ACADI has become a national leader in diabetes research translation. This designation reflects the University’s confidence in ACADI’s strategic value and its strong alignment with institutional priorities in health innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and community impact.
From 2026, core operational support from Diabetes Victoria will sustain ACADI as a University Research Centre for the next decade, complementing the Centre’s position within MDHS and enhancing its capacity to lead cross-sector collaboration, strengthen research training pathways and attract future investment.
Led by Professor Elif Ekinci, ACADI unites University of Melbourne researchers with national partners across academia, industry, healthcare and the community to develop and translate innovative interventions for diabetes and its complications- prevention and management. Formal Centre status ensures ACADI can continue operating with the autonomy, visibility and governance required to coordinate its national network and deliver meaningful improvements in diabetes care and outcomes.
