Inaugurating the BMedSci (Honours) Dental Stream in Indonesia

Dental Stream students from the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) program were welcomed at an inauguration ceremony at Universitas Indonesia’s Depok Campus, marking academic excellence and ongoing collaboration between the University of Melbourne and its Indonesian partners.

The Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) program, delivered by the Department of Medical Education at the Melbourne Medical School, brings together students from the medical and dental schools of two partner institutions in Indonesia: Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Airlangga. The program strengthens academic partnerships across borders while providing a strong academic foundation and diverse career pathways. It prepares graduates to pursue careers as researchers, clinician-scientists and clinicians.

The Dental Stream of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) is delivered in collaboration with the Melbourne Dental School, reflecting a strong partnership that supports excellence in collaborative learning and research. Undertaking the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) at the University of Melbourne provides students with invaluable academic and professional experiences, including the opportunity to engage directly with the University’s vibrant academic community.

The inauguration ceremony for the Dental Stream students was held at the Depok Campus of Universitas Indonesia. The event was attended by Professor Paolo Cattaneo, representing the Melbourne Dental School as the Dental Stream Coordinator, and Dr Nilakshi Waidyatillake, Academic Lead of the program, representing the Department of Medical Education.

The occasion celebrated not only the students’ academic achievements but also the dedication, resilience and hard work they have demonstrated throughout their studies.

Their continued success highlights the impact of international collaboration and the strength of the program’s academic framework. It also marks a proud moment for the BMedSci (Honours) team, whose collective expertise, commitment, and collaborative approach continue to strengthen the program and support student success.
