Launch of new St Vincent’s Clinical School and research facilities at ACMD
The Melbourne Medical School recently marked the official launch of the new St Vincent’s Clinical School location at the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD).

The ACMD opened in the second half of 2025 and is Australia’s first collaborative, hospital-based biomedical engineering hub. It brings together students, clinicians and researchers to foster an interdisciplinary environment, while also giving students direct exposure to MedTech research and development.
The launch was chaired by Associate Professor Christine Jackman, Director of St Vincent’s Clinical School, and featured presentations from leaders across the University and St Vincent’s:
- Professor Mike McGuckin, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences
- Professor Sarath Ranganathan, Head of the Melbourne Medical School
- Professor Elizabeth Molloy, Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences
- Nicole Tweddle, Chief Executive, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne
Following the formalities, guests were invited to attend a guided tour of the purpose-built facilities including a dedicated simulation and skills training lab, tutorial spaces, student lounge and meeting rooms designed to support hands-on learning and collaboration.
Guests also learned about the impressive range of facilities available beyond the Clinical School for Doctor of Medicine students undertaking a research component. These include dry labs for workshops, human kinetics and dynamic X-ray facilities, as well as Faraday rooms. The University of Melbourne Medical Students' Society (UMMSS) Orchestra performed during refreshments and tours, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

The launch recognised the important contributions of clinical supervisors, academic staff and students, while reinforcing a shared commitment to collaboration, innovation and interdisciplinary education.
