Queen's Birthday Honours

Congratulations to the 19 MMS staff, alumni and friends recognised in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Staff

A gastroenterologist, The Royal Children's Hospital, Professor Graeme L Barnes AO, Honorary Emeritus, was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine, particularly to child gastrointestinal health, and to medical research.

Mr Russell J Corlett AM, was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to plastic and reconstructive medicine, and to the community of the Asia-Pacific region.

Honorary, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Royal Women's Hospital and Mercy Hospital, Professor Emeritus Roger J Pepperell AM, (Master of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, 1973; Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1965), was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to medical education, particularly to obstetrics and gynaecology.

Chair of Adolescent Health, and Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Professor Susan M Sawyer AM, (Doctor of Medicine, 1995), Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1985) was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to tertiary education, to adolescent health, and to international groups. Chair of Adult and Clinical Genetics, The University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital Professor Ingrid Winship AO was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine, particularly to clinical genetics and research, to cancer prevention, and as a role model and mentor. Alumni

Former Paediatric Surgeon at the Royal Children's Hospital, Alexander W Auldist AO, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1962), received an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to paediatric medicine as a surgeon, educator and mentor of young physicians, and to professional organisations.

A dermatologist at St Vincent's Private, Dr Christopher S Baker AM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1984), was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine, to dermatology, and to professional medical colleges.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Robert John Bartlett AM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1967), was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to orthopaedic medicine, and to national and international medical associations.

The CEO of Central Gippsland Health, Dr Frank S Evans OAM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1958), received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the international community of Timor-Leste.

The Head of the Auburn Clinical School, University of Notre Dame Australia, Associate Professor Hadia Haikal-Mukhtar OAM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1981), received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine, and to the Lebanese community.

General Medicine Physician, Ballarat Base Hospital, Ballarat Health, Dr Brian R Hassett OAM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1969) received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine and to the community of Ballarat.

Professor of Psychiatry at Bond University, Professor Philip L Morris, AM was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to psychiatry, medical education, and professional health organisations.

A GP at the Refugee Health Network of Australia, Companion House Refugee Medical Service, Professor Christine B Phillips AM, (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1988), was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to medical education, to migrant and refugee health, and to medicine.

Research and Education Lead (Haemotology), VCCC and Laboratory Head in Cancer Research and Treatments, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Professor Andrew W Roberts AM (Doctor of Philosophy, 1997) was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to medical research, to haematology, and to cancer organisations.

General Medicine Physician Dr Heather G Simmons OAM (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1968), was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine, particularly to women's health.

General Medicine Physician Dr Laurie S Warfe OAM (Master of Health and Medical Law, 2015), was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine, and to the community.

Director of the Centre for Hormone Research, at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, MCRI, Professor George A Werther AO (Doctor of Medicine, 1994; Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, 1971), was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine, to paediatric endocrinology and research, and to professional medical organisations.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health), Griffith University, Professor Sheena Reilly AM was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to tertiary education, to medical research, and to paediatric speech pathology.
