TikTok health messaging

In recognizing social media as an important source of information for young people, a team of medical students has initiated a TikTok project.

The aim of this TikTok project is to deliver clear, accurate health messages to adolescents on a variety of topics, including COVID-19, in a fun and engaging way.

Thirty medical students in the MD program with a keen interest in health messaging have been recruited to create and develop and videos. Pediatricians and other academics from the Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne and Melbourne Children’s Centre for Health Analytics are guiding and supporting the student team with content advice and review. A consumer group of adolescents has also been formed as an important component to provide feedback and ideas in the development process.

The TikTok channel @unimelb_4youth_health was launched on TikTok Tuesday 9 November.
