Name change for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health approved

The Vice-Chancellor recently endorsed the name change of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health.

Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health

The inclusion of 'newborn health' represents immediate post-birth teaching, research, and clinical care.

The revised name recognises the significant contributions of the work undertaken by the neonatology team based within the Department, and encompasses the breadth of work being done by researchers in the Department to look at newborn health after infants leave the care of the neonatology team.

The Department’s women’s health student rotation also incorporates all the ‘healthy newborn’ and ‘problems in the newborn’ teaching.

The inclusion of ‘newborn health’ in the Department’s name is representative of immediate post-birth teaching, research, and clinical care.
