(L-R): Dr Amanda Baric, Associate Professor Wei Qi Fan and Dr Jesse Irwin from the Department of Medical Education.

Each year, Northern Clinical School students vote for the Teacher of the Year to recognise educators who have inspired, mentored, and shared their knowledge and experience.

Twenty-five educators from Northern Health were nominated this year, highlighting the quality of educators contributing to the MD program.

Associate Professor Wei Qi Fan, a neonatologist and coordinator of the Children and Adolescent Rotation in MD3, has consistently won the MD3 award over the last decade. Known for her commitment, care and teaching expertise, We Qi goes the extra mile to ensure students have a fabulous rotation.

Dr Jesse Irwin also won the Teacher of the Year award in MD3. Jesse is a psychiatry registrar at Northern Health and is praised by students for his empathic bedside manner, engaging teaching style and for providing a caring space for challenging conversations relating to patients and the field of psychiatry.

Dr Amanda Baric was awarded Teacher of the Year in MD2. Mandy is an anaesthetist with a passion for educating students about the deteriorating patient, while also facilitating many opportunities for them to learn about pain, perioperative medicine and teamwork. Students highlight Mandy’s ability to motivate and provide effective feedback, encouraging them to strive for excellence.

Thank you to all the Northern Clinical School and Northern Health staff for supporting our students this year.
